Cirque of the Towers

I didn’t expect to find one of the most beautiful places on earth in Wyoming. Britta and I decided to take the “Cirque of the Towers” alternate during our last stretch, and it was in this 21 mile section of the Wind River range that we encountered a landscape so ruggedly pristine it bordered on magical. The amazing views continued well past the alternate, but none quite matched those in the Cirque. Here are a few photos which don’t nearly capture what it was like to be there, but will have to suffice. (Speaking of photos, I was finally able to add pics to my last post.) But back to the Cirque:

I head into the Cirque.
I thought we left this stuff behind in Colorado?!
One of many lakes.
Britta takes in the view.
Fog lies in the low spots below Texas Pass early in the morning.

From South Pass City to Dubois was one of our longer stretches at 170 miles. Besides the incredible views, we finally ran into ripe berries – wild strawberries, huckleberries, and raspberries. We are now heading up into Yellowstone, and our last week in Wyoming!

  1. Wow, thank is completely stunning! I can imagine being there, it is 10x more beautiful than a picture can capture, but even the photos make it looks so peaceful.

    1. There are a few sections of the trail that I’d love to go back and see again, and this was definitely one of them.

  2. Gorgeous! Those photos make me feel like you two are actually on a journey to drop a ring into Mordor.

    1. I wish! I imagine that the Shire and path to Mordor would be even more beautiful…but perhaps also a bit more dangerous. Instead of cows, I’d have to worry about orcs.
